Senior Taxonomist – USA or Canada (Remote)

Plexus are on the hunt for an Senior Taxonomist to join one of the industry leading Web3 VC funds.

What you will do:

  • Keep track of and update the current system for organising various crypto projects, protocols, technologies, and ideas.
  • Keep an eye on the crypto world to identify new trends, areas of interest, or emerging technologies that should be incorporated into the system.
  • Collaborate with analysts, researchers, and data experts to ensure that the system accurately covers all the details of the crypto field.
  • Establish and document clear rules and guidelines for consistently using and updating the system across different sources and analyses.
  • Collaborate with labelling, analysis, and engineering teams to ensure the correct usage of the system and provide guidance on complex cases or uncertainties.
  • Identify and rectify any inconsistencies or repetitions within the system and propose improvements.
  • Conduct regular quality checks to ensure the system’s accuracy and reliability.
  • Provide training, assistance, and educational materials for labelling teams.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3+ years (ideally 5+ years) of experience in developing or managing taxonomies, or in a related field.
  • Deep knowledge of taxonomy design principles, information architecture, and systems for organising knowledge.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the skill to handle uncertainty and make wise decisions.
  • Great communication and teamwork skills, able to explain complex ideas to both technical and non-technical people effectively.
  • Careful attention to detail and dedication to maintaining high data quality and consistency.
  • Enthusiasm for staying informed about new trends and changes in the crypto world.

Nice to have:

  • Proficiency in cryptocurrency and blockchain technologies (DeFi, NFT, L1s, L2s).
  • Knowledge of data labelling, data entry, and knowledge management procedures.
  • Proficiency in SQL/Python.
